Bio
Professor Paramjeet Singh is a scholar, musician, educator, and Indian classical vocalist whose life’s work centres on sharing India’s rich musical and spiritual traditions. Born into a family of musical scholars in Patiala, Northern India, he began his training at six under the guidance of his father, Gyani Kripal Singh, a respected kirtan singer. This early foundation shaped a lifelong dedication to studying, performing, and teaching music.
His musical background encompasses classical and light classical music, ghazals, folk songs, and devotional kirtan. With training in voice, harmonium, and tabla, Professor Singh brings a deep understanding of melody, rhythm, and expression to his work. His repertoire draws on poetry and devotional compositions from Hindu, Sufi, and Sikh traditions, reflecting the breadth of his musical interests and his connection to their spiritual roots.
Teaching is an essential part of Professor Singh’s work. Through public workshops and private lessons in the Greater Toronto Area, he shares his knowledge of Indian classical music with students.
Alongside performing and teaching, Professor Singh has devoted time to studying rare ragas and preserving musical compositions passed down through generations. His recordings offer listeners an opportunity to explore his work, from Gurbani Sangeet to Punjabi songs. Together, these pursuits reflect a lasting commitment to keeping musical heritage alive and sharing it with new audiences.
